About us

The Strengthening Transparency Accountability and Responsiveness in Ghana (STAR-Ghana) programme has a dual focus – catalysing the efforts of citizens towards systemic change on specific issues, and working towards the creation of a Ghanaian-run corporate entity to sustain support for these efforts beyond the life cycle of the programme. Christian Aid, in partnership with a number of consortium partners, is managing the implementation of the STAR-Ghana programme. STAR-Ghana is funded by UKaid, Danida and the European Union.

 

About the role

The purpose of the role is to support STAR-Ghana grant partners by providing best practice coaching and mentoring in fiduciary management addressing capacity weaknesses and risks in grant partners. The Financial Management Mentors are accountable for the development and strengthening of the financial capacity of supported STAR-Ghana grant partners to improve their financial systems, procedures and practices.

They will as part of their orientation participate in a 2-day MANGO orientation, undertake validation of the due diligence assessment and support the action planning following the financial management training for the partners. Technical support for this position will be provided from MANGO and there will be a line of accountability to the MANGO Associate.

Specifically, the Mentors will undertake the following in carrying out the assignment;

-Conduct a review (or validate existing reviews) of a sample of partners to identify partners’ needs around financial planning, accounting records, monitoring & reporting, internal controls, staffing and grant management and map out financial risks based on the review.

-Based on the results of the review and risk assessment, work together with the other partners to create action plans to strengthen financial capacity throughout each organization.

-Support the monitoring the implementation of these action plans, providing guidance, coaching and support where needed, whilst providing coaching support so that supported partners reach a core minimum standard in the essential fiduciary management competencies required depending on the nature and scale of their organization

 

About you

The successful applicant will have a degree in a relevant field; combined with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. You should have professional accounting or business qualification, qualified accountant (CA, ACCA). You should have technical experience in finance capacity development. You should also have experience of a range of training and learning methodologies to support partners capacity development in an innovative way. This will include managing complex partnerships; ability to facilitate, coach and mentor effective changes; a successful capacity development experience / background with adaptability, energy, patience and a genuine desire to contribute enthusiastically and sympathetically to STAR-Ghana objectives. You need to have knowledge of/and or experience of the Not for Profit, NGO and / or Development Sectors. You have demonstrable ability to deliver results within time and the ability to accommodate considerable travel demands. You are an experienced facilitator, trainer and good in network building.
